THE CHANCEL CHOIR is an adult choir which enhances the worship experience at 9:30 a.m. on Sunday mornings each week, and seasonally at the 11:15 a.m. service. The choir supports the congregation in singing the hymns, sings anthems and leads the liturgy of the service. Special choral presentations in the fall, Christmas and spring are also presented. This choir is not auditioned and rehearses September-May on Thursdays from 7:30-9:30 p.m. See also: Choir Section Leads. |
LA BELL ENSEMBLE is an adult handbell choir that provides music for weddings and offers its gifts of music frequently out in the wider community. Practices are held on Tuesdays at 7:15 p.m. For more information please contact Marcia Gosse (613-731-2281). First practice Tuesday, September 6th.
TOUCH OF BRASS is an adult handbell choir that plays in church regularly as well as at special events in the community. RETREAT TIMES: During the year there are opportunities to go on retreats. These times are designed to be as stress-free as possible and to open a window of time in your busy life to focus on your relationship with God. For more information, please call the main office (613-733-3156 ext 229).
LECTIONARY BIBLE STUDY meets on Wednesday mornings (9:30 - 11:30 a.m.) to explore the lectionary text for the
coming Sunday worship service. Led weekly by the minister preaching on the Sunday, participants engage in conversation about the meaning of texts for
their daily living, adding to the minister’s reflections about the text. Starts Wednesday, September 21st.

LENTEN STUDY: Included in the options for Lent is a time of study, and special places and times for prayer and reflection. We also have a labyrinth located in Beecroft Hall at this special time of year.

MEDITATION GROUP: Meeting in the Parlour at 11:15 a.m. on Sunday morning, all are welcome to join in the practice of Christian meditation. Meditation is good for mind, body and spirit.
PORTABLE LABYRINTH: We are grateful to the family of the late Margaret Speakman, as a bequest she left to the church was used to purchase our labyrinth. It is 30 feet wide, is hand painted on poly canvas and it is a replica of the labyrinth in Chartres Cathedral. During Lent it will be available. SEDER SUPPER: Our annual Seder Supper takes place on Maundy Thursday, April 5th, 2012, where we gather as a congregational family and celebrate in the Jewish tradition of a Seder. All are welcome.
PERSONAL PRAYER AND DEVOTION: This is not something scheduled at the church, but an invitation to be intentional in making time to catch our breath, to recognize all we have been given and reflect on how far we’ve come, to more fully develop our mind and spirit, to seek out the richness of maturity and the wisdom it can bring, encourages us to reflect upon the past with compassion, embrace the present, to live fully in each moment and to step into each new day with a sense of purpose and wonder, enjoying each for the priceless gift it is.

SMALL GROUP EXPERIENCE: Rideau Park can seem like a big community where it is difficult to get to know people. One way of feeling more connected is to join a smaller group of people who share a common interest or experience. There are many such groups in the congregation. Speak to one of the ministers if you would like to find a small group that matches your interests.
HARMONY CLUB: The Harmony Club for seniors meets once a month, usually on the last Wednesday. Our fall program starts Wednesday, September 28th. Our program format is: from 10:30 a.m. to 12:00 noon, cards and conversation; at noon a delicious luncheon is served; and an interesting program follows at 1:00 p.m. (usually 30-40 minutes). The membership fee for the year is $5. Wheelchair accessible. New members are welcome. For information, please contact Marg Nelson (613-523-9357).
UNITED CHURCH WOMEN meet in unit groupings. These groups provide spiritual nourishment and lifelong friendships. There are six units that meet either at the church or in homes once a month, except in the summer. Please refer to the UCW flyer available in the Sanctuary (and online) for a description of the function of the UCW, or contact our UCW President, Barbara Robinson (613-526-0642).
EXERCISE: This 50+ seniors’ group meets on Tuesday and Thursday mornings (9:00- 10:00 a.m.). A small registration fee covers after-class refreshments and the instructor’s fee. Call Ada McEwen (613-731-9545) for more information.
EUCHRE CLUB: If you like to laugh, talk and play some euchre then please come to our Thursday Euchre Club gathering. We meet every Thursday from September to mid-June at 1:00 p.m. for cards, refreshments, jokes, stories, and general fun. A minimal donation is requested to help defray our refreshment expenses. QUILTING: If quilting is an interest of yours, come on Thursdays between 9:30 a.m. and 12:00 noon to piece together many wonderful quilts that are sold as fundraisers for the United Church Women. Bring your lunch and stay to visit following the quilting bee. This group meets all year round. Contact Ruth Ebertz (613-737-7403).
THE CIRCLE is a UCW group made up of women who are interested in journeying together as they explore their Christian faith. The group typically meets in the church parlour from 7:15 to 9:00 p.m. on the third Thursday of the month. Each year a book with a faith development theme is selected by the group, to help focus the discussion. CURLING CLUB: This group meets Saturday afternoons at the RA Centre. Both experienced and beginner curlers are welcome. Call Keith Harris (613-733-0061).
