Council has approved sharing our 11:15 Sunday service with Emmanuel United Church, starting in September. They are currently moving their worship and programs over to St. Aidan’s Anglican Church where they will worship during the summer.
On September 12th they will begin worshipping at 11:15 at Rideau Park, until the end of November when they hope to be back in their building. Their office and all their programmes will continue at St. Aidan’s. We did meet with Rideau Park members who attend the 11:15 service and they were in agreement that Emmanuel worship with them. Steve and Elizabeth will participate in the service with Emmanuel’s minister, Peter Lougheed. Our members will receive the RPUC Sunday bulletin each week. Worship details have not been worked out but there may be some sharing of preachers and music.
On September 12th, our service will start at 9:30 a.m. followed by the picnic, so that Emmanuel may join us for a time of fellowship, then hold their service at 11:15. They will also host their own fellowship time after 11:15 services.
We will keep you advised during the summer as things progress. Most importantly, we welcome Emmanuel’s congregation here and hope their time with us will be blessed and happy.
Again this summer, Rideau Park will be holding midweek services on Wednesday evenings at 7:15 pm in the Chapel. These services are especially popular with weekend cottagers. The theme for this summer’s series is “A Word Fitly Spoken”. Details of the individual services will be posted on the Summer Calendar page as they become available.
The stained glass window, “All Creatures Great and Small”, is dedicated in memory of Ed Becker and to honour Martha Becker. The design of the window, with beetles, butterflies and children, reflects both Ed’s love of insects as well as their work with youth. Ed enjoyed showing off his “oh my!” collection of insects to children, who particularly liked the live tarantula that he would let them hold. For over 25 years, Martha helped out in the public school’s “Step by Step” program. The window also reflects the congregation’s diversity and has been placed in the chapel for all to enjoy.

The staff of the Rideau Park Café would like to thank all the wonderful members of the staff and congregation who helped with the Café over the last three weeks. Generous donations of delicious baked goods, help with morning set-up and various moves between Beecroft Hall and the Parlour were gratefully appreciated. Café staff were also pleased to have some of you drop in to share your laughter and some humour over a cup of tea or coffee. We received thanks and compliments from parents of children taking the RCM exams and also from the examiners. Proceeds from the Café of approximately $550.00 will be put towards the renovations of the Beecroft Kitchen.
