On Sunday, June 11, 2006, Rideau Park celebrated a combined Trinity Sunday and Environmental service.
Sunday, October 31, 2004 was “Youth Sunday” at Rideau Park, and the service was led by youth and young adults of the congregation. This service celebrated creation and called members of Rideau Park to consider how their actions impact the environment. For details of this service, see:
The Environmental Action Committee hosted an open session on March 13th, 2004 for the Rideau Park Sunday School. This session began with a group discussion...
Key topics discussed during this larger activity included:
- why is the environment something to talk about at Church?
- what stories from the Bible remind us of the environment?
- how does the Lord provide for us through the natural world?
- what is our responsibility as Christians to care for the earth.
The next part of the workshop was to create climate change mobiles!
Sunday school children and youth were given a variety of recycled materials such as toilet paper rolls, bottles, styrofoam cups, etc. At each station, they were asked to create something for their mobile such as...
- a symbol from their faith that reminds them of creation (such as trees, seeds, fire, etc.)
- an image that shows what causes climate change (such as planes, cars, furnaces, etc)
- an image that shows what individuals can do to stop climate change (such as turning off lights, planting trees, etc.)

Many excellent products were a result!!

The final mobiles will be combined and unveiled at a later date…possibly during a youth event for World Environment Day in June. Stay tuned or e-mail greenrpuc@hotmail.com for more details.
This workshop was developed in partnership with Renewing the Sacred Balance (Faith and the Common Good).
