Camping is a vital and important ministry in The United Church of Canada. For over 75 years, people of all ages and stages of life have come to United Church Camps to live in community, develop leadership skills, experience the outdoors, have fun, and deepen their faith in God. The United Church owns and operates over 75 camps across Canada.
Each year, one Sunday in spring is designated as National Camping Sunday. The worship service and activities on this Sunday are designed to: increase visibility of the church's ministry of residential camping; give visibility to local United Church camp(s); help people recall their memories and experiences of church camping. National Camping Sunday in 2006 was April 30th.
The United Church Camping Network E-List was developed to further build and strengthen the camping network in The United Church of Canada. This E-list is for camp directors, board members, and others involved in camping in The United Church of Canada. Its purpose is to provide a forum for discussion and exchange of ideas among United Church Camps and camping people for safety, knowledge, and success in their camping and outdoor ministries. To join the Camping Network see Web Connections at www.uccancamping.org.
The United Church of Canada's 2006 National Camping Conference ROOTED IN THE ROCK: Foundations for United Church Camping, will take place at the YMCA's Camp Chief Hector in Alberta, from Thursday, September 28th to Sunday, October 1st, 2006.
