What Is It?
Rideau Park’s Youth Bible Study (YBS) started in 1995 with a group of high school students, mostly from Lisgar, who met once a week at Rideau Park, to read and discuss the Bible. Over the years, students from a number of different schools have come and gone, and we have done lots of different studies (see below), but the group has retained its original purpose and character.
Originally this group met on Saturday mornings, but for quite a few years now, we have been meeting Sunday evenings from 7:00-8:30.

Who Attends?
Participants are mostly high school students in grades 10-12. Over the years we have had students from a number of different churches, and some from no church at all. You don’t have to be a “church person” to belong to this group!
We currently have about ten regular participants from a number of area schools, including:
- Canterbury High School
- Colonel By High School
- École secondaire publique De La Salle
- École secondaire catholique Franco-Cité
- Glebe Collegiate Institute
- Gloucester High School
- Hillcrest High School
- Lisgar Collegiate Institute
- St. Pius X High School
Of course, visitors are always welcome!
Here are some of the wonderful people who made our Bible Study such a great place to be in the school year 2008-2009!

What Do We Do?
Our Bible studies may be on a specific book of the Bible, or on a specific theme which runs through many different books. Occasionally, we spend some time on a study which is not, strictly speaking, a “Bible study” at all.
 |
Our current study (starting March 2010) is Jesus 24/7 Youth, a book from the United Church Publishing House, which we are using as a Confirmation resource. |
Here is a list of all the studies we have done (most recent last—some have been done more than once!):

But we don’t just read the Bible. Our times together are times of fun, food, music, and fellowship. We have donuts, juice, hot chocolate, and tea or coffee (for those of us who need a little extra inspiration!). In our discussions, you can say what you think, knowing that you are among friends who accept you as you are.
In the spring of 2008, we went on a retreat at Tucker House near Rockland, Ontario.
See a slideshow of our 2007 spring retreat.
We also do occasional service projects together, with such organizations as the Ottawa Food Bank, and the Shepherds of Good Hope.
