 Better\, Canada)\nThis day was created to mark the World Health Organiza
 tion’s (WHO) important step to declassify homosexuality as a mental di
 sorder\, on May 17th\, 1990.\nEvery year\, advocates around the world ca
 ll on local authorities\, decision-makers\, and the public to recognize 
 and support the issues those with diverse sexual identities\, gender exp
 ressions\, and sex characteristics currently face.\nRepresentation is e
 ver-evolving\nOriginally called “International Day Against Homophobia�
 �� to reflect the WHO’s decision on homosexuality\, the name has right
 fully expanded—to reflect other identities.\nFirst in 2009\, to includ
 e transphobia and bring attention to the specific experiences at the i
 ntersection of sexual orientation and gender expression. And again in 20
 15\, to include biphobia and acknowledge the issues faced by those who
  identify as bisexual.
