Rideau Park is able to fulfil its mission and ministry because of the many volunteers who share in the work together. These are some of the opportunities in which volunteers, new and experienced, can offer their time and talents. For a list of the Rideau Park Committees and Chairs, click here.

Community

Christmas Cheer
Our biggest community outreach, Christmas Cheer is an annual program that reaches out to 150 households in the community with generous food hampers and holiday support. We need volunteers to coordinate the program, fill hampers, drive and deliver them in our neighbourhoods.

Knitting
Many of the knitters in the congregation knit items that can be donated. We are always happy to receive knitted and crocheted items for the Christmas Bazaar, Prayer Shawls for pastoral care and children’s-sized hats and mittens that we donate to local homework clubs. Or pick up a kit and information about the Izzy Doll campaign.

Pause Table
We are happy to partner with Carleton University’s Multi-faith Centre with the Pause Table, a place of support and sustenance during the two main exam periods. We need volunteers to donate food, such as sandwiches, fruit or home-baking, and volunteers to serve it.

Fundraising

Suppers
Various groups put on fundraising suppers to support their work, and extra hands promoting, preparing, serving and cleaning up are always appreciated.

Christmas Bazaar
The annual Christmas Bazaar takes place the first Saturday in November from 1-4pm. This is a UCW undertaking, and donations of items to sell are requested through the church bulletin each October. Volunteers of all ages are needed in all areas of the event: Tea Room, Bake Table, Jams and Jellies, Deli Table, General Store, Book Alley, Crafts, Ladies’ Boutique, Garden Centre, Toys and Electronics, just to name a few.

Concerts
Whether you are musical or just love listening, you can contribute to the success of our music ministry. As well as singers and instrumentalists, we need people to promote, greet, and serve at musical events throughout the year.

Nearly New and Book Sale
Every spring and fall, a Nearly New sale takes place. In the spring, it is combined with a Book Sale. The Nearly New sale is an opportunity for you to cull your family’s gently used clothes, accessories (shoes, jewellery, handbags, belts, hats, gloves, scarves) household items like bed and table linens, leftover sewing and knitting supplies, and books. Gently used children’s and infants’ clothes and toys are also desirable. The organizers are happy to welcome new volunteers, so please look for a note in the ‘Rideau Park News’ section of the weekly church bulletin in the spring and fall.

Worship

Communion Preparations
The sacrament of Holy Communion takes place throughout the church year. Volunteers prepare bread, grape juice and serving trays the Saturday before Communion. They also wash and dry the communion glasses after the service. This is a ministry essential to our Christian worship. Training is provided.

Fellowship and Coffee Hour
Volunteers welcome people to Beecroft Hall for fellowship/socializing and coffee after the Sunday morning service. They make beverages and serve light refreshments. Training is provided.

Flower Delivery
Most Sundays, volunteers deliver the Sanctuary flowers to those in their homes who may need some spiritual uplift. Training is provided.

Scripture Readers
Every Sunday, a member of the congregation presents our scripture readings. We are always looking for new voices to diversify our hearing of the passage.
