Basic Income Workshop

Since 1972, the United Church of Canada has advocated for Guaranteed Income as a more equitable alternative to government support programs. Basic Income is an approach to economic security – a vision of dignity and justice for every Canadian. Come and learn about the case for Basic Income. Please contact Elizabeth Bryce (ebryce@rideaupark.ca) to register and receive the Zoom link. Click here to view poster.

Presenters

Joe Foster has had a variety of careers: in Montreal as an Electrical Engineer; as a volunteer with Cuso in Zambia; with UNDP in Malaysia; and with CIDA and External Affairs working in Developing Countries. His personal and observed experiences with poverty indicated that income insecurity is inexcusable. This has made him passionate about advocating for a Basic Income Guarantee.

Monika Ciolek is a former recipient of Ontario Works and the Basic Income Pilot Project 2018, currently living in Hamilton, Ontario. As a sole support parent, having had experience being on social assistance while working, volunteering and running a business, Monika is well acquainted with yesterday’s welfare and disability systems’ inability to provide meaningful futures for its recipients.

Craig Berggold is a leading advocate and nationally recognized campaigner for basic income, in particular organizing the arts community in it’s overwhelming support for basic income. He is the co-author of a public letter to the Prime Minister calling for a basic income for all, and endorsed by artist unions and groups representing 75,000 members.
